Alpena Public Schools Superintendent Brent Holcomb has received a rave review from the board of education.

Monday night the board presented Holcomb with his annual evaluation which Board President Diane Shields said was “excellent” and “overall very positive.”  In a prepared statement, the board agreed that Holcomb was an asset to the district and “a leader who is able to make hard choices, protect the district’s most basic mission of education, and yet face the community with compassion.”

Holcomb was credited for among other things, his focus on kids, open leadership style, communications skills, forward thinking and creative solutions to difficult problems.

In return for a job well done, the board rewarded Holcomb with a one-year contract extension that runs through the end of June of 2012.  The deal includes a mutually agreed to wage freeze and Holcomb will no longer be paid a mileage allowance for his travels – something else he agreed to in light of the district’s financial situation.

Holcomb was hired in July 2007 to replace then superintendent David Werner.
