Michigan’s average price for a gallon of gas rose last week, while drivers in some parts of northeast lower Michigan saw prices drop.

AAA Michigan says gasoline prices are up 2.5 cents per gallon over the past week to a statewide average of $2.75.  Of the cities it surveys, the auto club found the cheapest price for self-serve regular fuel in the metro Detroit area, where it’s $2.72 a gallon. The highest average was found in the Traverse City area at $2.80.

Motorists in Alpena are now enjoying one of the lowest prices in the state at $2.62 a gallon, down 7 cents from one week ago.  At least one station, however, raised their prices overnight to $2.65 a gallon.

AAA said the new statewide average is 88 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time.
