Alpena Hockey Association Midget BB Hockey Team Sweeps 2010 Alpine Invitational

The AHA Midget BB hockey team traveled to Gaylord for the 2010 Alpine Invitational, hosted by the Otsego County Hockey Association, and came away with a four game sweep of the event.

On Friday, Alpena defeated the Gaylord Ice Hawks, Saint Claire Shores East Side Crew and Livingston County Thunder to advance to the championship game against Saint Clair Shores on Sunday.

In the first Saturday game matchup Alpena skated to a 7 to 5 victory against Saint Clair Shores.  The scoring started with Kyle Fisher’s break away shorthanded goal.  Nick Kaiser had two goals and one assist while Roddy person had one goal and three assists.  Zack Rousseau and Alex Benson each had a goal and an assist and Aaron Senchuk had a goal.  Saint Clair Shores was one of the stronger opponents that Alpena competed against.

The second game of the day against the Livingston County Thunder resulted in a 6 to 1 victory for Alpena and sent them into the championship.  Alpena’s Aaron Senchuk and Roddy Person each found the net two times apiece.  Chad Stevens had one goal and an assist and Tyler Phillips contributed a goal as well.  Luke Stevens and Kyle Fisher each had assists.

 Alpena won the championship game 4 to 3 against a scrappy Saint Clair Shores team.  Alpena opened the game with Zach Rousseau scoring Alpena’s first goal just 11 seconds into the game from a pass from Austin Gilmet.  Alpena’s Ryan Caldwell, Aaron Senchuk and Alex Benson would also find the back of the net.  Gilmet would get an additional assist as well as Brett Griffin, Nick Kaiser, Chad Thomas and Alex Benson each getting assists.

Alpena will finish their season next weekend when they travel to Midland for the State Championship.   Alpena’s record now stands at 49 wins and 1 loss.
