The League of Women Voters of Alpena County is hosting a presentation this month, on the local homeless situation in the community and in schools.

League officials say that although the overall rate of homelessness has decreased by a small amount, there is still a problem locally.

The director of the Sunrise Mission, Leslie Sheen, will present information on the homeless shelter, which has been helping the less fortunate for the past 26 years.  Vicki Denstaedt and Matt Poli of Alpena Public Schools will talk about the impact of homelessness on students and schools.

The presentation, which is open to the public, will be held inside room 126 of the Besser Tech Center at Alpena Community College on Monday, November 19, at 7 p.m.

League members are bringing toiletry items to donate to the mission and APS.
