Local Republican candidates did well in Alpena County and most of northeast Michigan during Tuesday’s election.

Republican incumbent county commissioners Nick Modrzynski from District #3 and Brenda Fournier from District #5 both beat their Democratic challengers.

And Republicans Senator Jim Stamas and Rep. Sue Allor both won by a wide margin.

In a non-partisan race, incumbent Alpena Probate Judge Tom LaCross garnered more votes than challenger Denise Burke.

Voters in Alpena and Ossineke townships both approved millages for their fire department.  And voters in Ossineke, Sanborn and Wilson townships granted a franchise to Alpena Power Company for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and commercially using electric lines to conduct a local electric business.

Meanwhile, voters in Alcona County defeated a revised countywide headlee rollback millage.  A similar request was turned down during the August Primary Election.

And voters in Presque Isle County said no to a countywide millage request that would have been used for the upkeep of county buildings.  Probate Judge Candidate Erik Stone defeated challenger Katy Conklin.

All results are unofficial.
