Two men from Alpena County were sentenced this week, both on a 3rd drunk driving offense.

Brian Vandeweghe of Hubbard Lake said he wasn’t going to drink alcohol anymore before receiving 30 days in jail.

Vandeweghe was also placed on 18 months probation and must wear a Soberlink tether for 90 days after he is released from jail.  That tether is an alcohol-monitoring device.

The 47 year-old Vandeweghe was busted on December 28, 2017 as we was leaving the Walmart parking lot.  An employee of the store called police after smelling alcohol on his breath.

In a separate case, 40 year-old Chad Yachasz also received 30 days in jail on a third drunk driving offense.  Due to his employment, the court is allowing him to start serving his sentence in mid-November.  From now until that time, Yachasz must also wear a Soberlink tether.  If the tether detects any alcohol, he will immediately be picked up and jailed.

Yachasz was arrested for drunk driving on December 14, 2017, after police saw him driving erratically on Johnson Street.
