Michigan State Police troopers in Alpena were busy over the Independence Day holiday week, not only at the local post but also on roads across the department’s five county service area.

The post logged a total of 92 complaints last week and troopers made at least 24 arrests.

The majority, if not all of the arrests stemmed from traffic stops.  Trooper conducted 543 traffic stops over the week and issued 191 citations.

Five people were arrested for drunk driving, three for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs, two for possession of marijuana and three for open intoxicants in a vehicle.

A 31 year-old Alpena man was arrested and jailed following a traffic stop on US-23 north on the 4th of July.  Police said the man was driving on a suspended license and was also wanted on eight outstanding warrants, including possession of heroin.

Troopers were also on scene of 18 auto accidents over the week.
