Another major street reconstruction project will be getting underway in Alpena soon.

The city is paying MacArthur Construction more than $583,000 to reconstruct Fourth Avenue, between Ripley Boulevard and Bedford Street; Bedford, between Fourth and Fifth avenues; and Fifth, between Ripley and Baldwin.

The project includes replacement of all water and sewer lines under those streets.

City engineer Rich Sullenger said the bid came in under the projected cost.  Because the project is located around Ella White Elementary School it will not get underway until after classes are let out for summer.

The Municipal Council last week, also approved spending more than $79,000 to upgrade the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system at the water recycling plant.

The project includes replacement of two roof top air handlers.  A company out of West Branch came in with the low bid.
