Many schools across Michigan are receiving a portion of $2.5 million in state grants to build or enhance First Robotics teams.

Grants range in size from $100 to $9,000.

The grants, awarded by the Michigan Department of Education, are part of Governor Rick Snyder’s continued investment in FIRST Robotics, which has students learning about applications of science, technology, engineering, arts and math through building robots for competitions.

Michigan already has more than 500 FIRST high school teams and the state is encouraging more schools to form teams.

Locally, schools in Alcona, Alpena, Atlanta, Hillman, Onaway, Oscoda, Posen, Tawas and Wolverine are all receiving robotics grants.  The awards range from $3,800 for Alcona Community Schools to over $10,000 for Oscoda Area Schools.  A list of the recipients can be viewed below.
