Several Boy Scout troops in northeast Michigan are hosting “Scouting for Food and Friends” events this weekend, to benefit local food banks.

Scouts from Alpena, Lewiston and Onaway will be camping in prominent locations within their community and collecting non-perishable foods for a 24-hour period.

Scouts will also be demonstrating scouting skills and activities and offering information to potential new scouts to join the program in their area.

Troop 18, Crew 7018 and Pack 3018 will be collecting food and camping in the field next to Ace Hardware in Lewiston from noon Saturday to noon Sunday.  For more information call 989-370-6574.

And Troop 68 will be collecting food and camping at St. Paul’s Church in Onaway from noon Saturday through noon on Sunday. For more information call 989-733-5231.
