Annual Chowder Cook-off expanded to include chili & more

An annual chowder cook-off in Alpena is being expanded and relocated to a different section of downtown.

Registration is now open for the 4th annual Chowder & Chili Cook-off.

In addition to adding a chili division, the event is moving from Culligan Plaza to Second Avenue, between Chisholm and River streets.

This section of Second Avenue will be closed off to traffic during the cook-off, which is being held on Saturday, October 14, from noon to 5 p.m.

“Changing the location from Culligan Plaza to Second Avenue will allow even more competitors and more attendees to participate…,” said Anne Gentry, Executive Director of the Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA).

In addition, more awards will be handed out and cash prizes will range from $50 – $250.

Registration will be capped at 10 chili and 10 chowder entries, so participants are encouraged to register as early as possible. Registration is $25.  For more information visit Downtown Alpena on Facebook or email anneg@alpena.mi.us.

Tickets for the event are $10 for 10 tastings.  Beer and wine will be available for purchase.  All proceeds will benefit future community events and promotional activities in downtown Alpena.
