The City of Alpena has adopted a new $10.6 million general fund budget for the fiscal year starting July 1.

A public hearing was held Monday night, to give residents a chance to comment on the proposed budget before city council voted to approve it.

A few minor changes were made since the budget was first rolled out on May 1.  A projected budget deficit fell slightly, from approximately $255,000 to about $252,000.

Despite the shortfall, all employees, including administration and department heads, are receiving raises.

The new budget includes capital improvement projects totaling $5.24 million.

The city is projecting a year end general fund surplus of approximately $3.1 million.

The 2017-2018 budget is available for public review in the city clerk’s office at city hall and online at www.alpena.mi.us.
