True North Radio Network (TNRN) is pleased to announce its Summer Concerts in the Park line up for 2017.

Local musicians will be featured in three of the eight bands, with music ranging from Country to Motown to rock and roll.

Seven of the eight concerts will be held on select Saturday’s between June 3 and August 12, from 6 to 9 p.m.  The eighth concert will be held on Tuesday, July 4, from 7 to 10 p.m.

“I would like to thank the many people who took the time to talk in person, call, mail, email, facebook, or tweet how much they love the summer concerts and to offer input on possible bands for the series”, said Darrel Kelly, General Manager at TNRN.  “This is truly a community event.  Over 20,000 people attended the free concerts last year and we look forward to welcoming even more this summer.”

The 4th of July show, always one of the largest attended concerts, features The Classic Rock Experience “70s Arena Rock” out of Cincinnati, Ohio.   These real rockers play some of the biggest hits from Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Styx, Boston, Deep Purple, Journey, Grand Funk, and more.

Saturday, June 3: Donny Hartman Band
Donny is one of the original Michigan Madmen.  During Michigan’s Rock & Roll heyday (in the 60s and 70s), Michigan was generating legends like Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and more.  Donny was blazing the guitar hero trail with Dick Wagner and the Frost.  He is a member of the Detroit Rock-n-roll Hall of Fame.  Check out this Alpena native, along with Pete and Bob Madsen.  You won’t want to miss one of the truly legendary guitar players of our time.  http://www.donnyhartman.com

Saturday, June 10: Persuasion Band
This 9-piece band features 2 female singers, was voted Detroit’s hottest band. They play everything from Motown to the Black Eyed Peas. They are appearing for the 7th time at the concert series and are back by popular demand. They are one of the most popular bands to ever play in Alpena.  https://www.facebook.com/ThePersuasionBand

Saturday, June 24: Gunner and the Grizzly Boys
GGB have fashioned a style that leader Gunnar Nyblad describes as,“Country music with a Michigan root.” The band features 5 members including Alpena native Shane Grehan. They have a new album entitled Good Rhythm, which is their first album since 2010.  This band is looking forward to returning to the Alpena area for the first time in years.  http://www.gunnartunes.com

Tuesday, July 4: Classic Rock Experience, 70′s Arena Rock Show
What’s more American than rock-n-roll on the 4th of July?  Featuring the music of Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Styx, Boston, Deep Purple, Journey, Grand Funk, and more!
This is a magical musical RockTacular through the 70′s!

Their extraordinary performances include songs from the Fab Four’s first U.S. releases like “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” “She Loves You,” “Twist And Shout” and “I Saw Her Standing There,” as well as an ensemble of eclectic tunes such as “Penny Lane,” “Paperback Writer,” “I Am The Walrus,” and “Hey Jude”.  You will be able to sing along to all their greatest hits!

Saturday, July 29: Thunder Bay Theatre presents West Side Story in Concert
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City as two young lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. This is your chance to see and hear this great play live at the Band Shell.  http://www.thunderbaytheatre.com/

Saturday, August 5: PaddlebotsThis 7 piece band features Alpena native Ethan O’Brien. This band plays R&B, Soul, Pop, Rock and original songs.  They feature artists such as Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Michael Jackson, Maroon 5 and more.  Get ready to be entertained with the Paddlebots.  https://www.facebook.com/PaddlebotsMusic/

Saturday, August 12: Tweed and Dixie
The honest memoirs of country music’s forefathers and all-out rock and roll attitude collide within the beautiful contradiction known as Tweed And Dixie. Meeting somewhere between Waylon and Whitesnake, their sound has been crafted from growing up in the working class, grease-driven Motor City Madhouse and running the back roads of Great Lakes country. The group’s chemistry is comprised of the deeply rooted, country-rock soul of Barry Forster, pop-driven energy of Billy Gunther, gut-busting bass lines and soaring vocals of Rick Maida, and soulful, thunder-drumming of Justin Clifford (and his beard).  This is their second appearance at the summer concert series.  https://tweedanddixie.com/
