Through the generosity of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op members, five agencies or programs in northeast Michigan are receiving a total of $8,600 in grants.

PIE&G customers can voluntarily round up of their electric and natural gas billings to the nearest dollar and then those monies are collected and distributed in the form of grants and scholarships throughout the region.

At their recent meeting, the PIE&G Communities First Fund Board of Directors approved grants for Cheboygan Community Schools, Lamplighters of Montmorency County, Great Start Collaborative of Cheboygan, Otsego, and Presque Isle counties, Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ossineke, and Cheboygan County PRIDE.

Most of the programs awarded grants are geared toward children.

The $1,500 grant for the Great Start Collaborative will be used toward a Project Connect event in Presque Isle County.

The church in Ossineke will use its $1,000 grant for materials associated with the Grief Share Ministries which is a faith-based program to help individuals work through the loss of a loved one.
