Local League of Women Voters to register young voters

A push is on to register young voters across parts of northeast Michigan.

The League of Women Voters of Alpena County has received a small grant to register young voters in Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties.

Beginning in April, League members will visit high schools in all four counties, ACES Academy and Alpena Community College, presenting programs on the importance of voting and registering teens who will be of voting age by the November general election.

The four-county project has been made possible, in part, by a $900 grant from the National League of Women Voters Education Fund. The money will be used to cover costs of the events and information on voting.

All programs and materials produced by the League are non-partisan.

For more information or to join the League of Women Voters, visit the groups website at www.lwvalpenacounty.org, or call 356-4953.
