Gillian “Gilly” Robert Gibbons, Age 11 went to his eternal resting place in Heaven on Thursday, March 1, 2012, where he will forever be embraced in the presence of God and all the angels that will welcome him with open arms.

Gilly was born April 20, 2000, to Robert & Shelly (Bennett) Gibbons.  Gilly has surpassed many of us with his life experiences.  The name Gillian means great joy and that is exactly what he was to all that knew him.  He had many great friends and focused on being a great friend to others.  He attended All Saints, Long Rapids School, Wilson Elementary and Thunder Bay Junior High. Gilly enjoyed playing for the Huron Shores Little League, Thunder Bay Basketball Association, Jets Football and enjoyed being a member of the Youth Bowling League.   At the opening ceremonies for the 2011 baseball season an award was created for a young individual who is an inspiration to others. Gilly was the first recipient of this annual award which was honorably named “The Gilly Award”.  He Loved being outdoors, swimming, fishing, boating, camping, 4 wheeling, dirt bike riding, hunting & being at Big Daddies Hunting Camp with “the guys, including “uncles” Steve and Chad Zann”.   Most recently Gilly shot his first deer and was granted an Elk Hunt from the Jack Pine Safari Club where he shot a 550lb 6pt elk.  Gilly received the Young Hero’s Award from the Air National Guard on February 23, 2012.  Gilly was always adventurous in all that he did. He had an interest in the acoustic guitar, electric guitar and playing the drums.  He had a passion for fireworks and celebrated every day like it was the 4th of July.  He liked collecting pocket knives, experimenting and inventing things.  He enjoyed bonfires, movies and laughter. Gilly was an academic achiever and a very charismatic “young adult”, wise beyond his years.

He will be sorrowfully missed by all.  Gilly is survived by his parents Robert & Shelly Gibbons, brother and best buddy Hutch Gibbons, Grandparents, Robert Gibbons, Gladys Bennett & Tim & Judy St. John. Great Grandparents Maydora Kunath, Tim & Jeanne St. John and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins: Mike & Lisa Hahn & Hilary Burg, Perry, Kelly, Dani & Alli Losinski, Dan, Chris, Sydney, Kelsey & Ryan Bennett & Scott, Chris, John (Shanda), Katie (Felix) & Emily Bennett, Karah & Abhik Roy and Drew & Kathy Crain; Great cousins Anya and Layla; several Great Aunts and Uncles and cousins.  Gilly has countless friends and extended family as well as his dearest friends at Camp Quality where he has spent one week every summer since he was 6 years old.
