Two Alpena High School students have been selected National Merit Scholarship finalists out of an initial pool of some 1.6 million students from 22,000 high schools across the nation.

Seniors Clayton Donajkowski and Samuel Tuscher were chosen from approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Donajkowski and Tuscher now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships of more than $31 million, which will be awarded this spring.   The selection process is already underway.

National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.
