The 58th annual Black Lake Sturgeon Shivaree will be held on the shores of Black Lake in Cheboygan County on Friday and Saturday, February 1-2.

The shivaree started in 1961 to celebrate the iconic lake sturgeon and over the years has brought thousands of visitors to northern Michigan.

The festival coincides with the kick off of the 2019 lake sturgeon season on February 2.

The shivaree features live music, a fishing contest, poker run under the big tent, youth activities, horseshoe contest on the ice, food, beverages, raffles, a bonfire and more. The entrance fee is $5.

The shivaree is held under the entertainment tent near the former Black Lake Hotel on Winifred Street.  The tent is open from 3-10 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.on Saturday.

The shivaree is hosted by Sturgeon For Tomorrow.  For additional information call 231-625-2776.  Proceeds from the shivaree help fund lake sturgeon hatchery, research, habitat conservation, and outreach programs.
