A total of 30 Michigan communities are hosting Polar Plunges in 2019, to raise awareness and funding for Special Olympics.

Two plunges are being held in northeast Michigan.

Residents who participate in a Polar Plunge are helping to raise funds for year-round sports training and athletic competitions for more than 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Polar Plunges are being held in Alpena and Cheboygan on Saturday, February 16.  The Alpena event is being held at the SANDBAR & Grill on Long Lake Road.  Registration begins at noon.  The parade of costumes starts at 1:15 p.m. and will be followed by a plunge into Long Lake.  An ‘After Splash Bash’ will then be held inside the bar.

The Cheboygan event is being held at Hoppies Tavern. Registration begins at 11 a.m.  The parade of costumes starts at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by a plunge into Burt Lake at 1 p.m.  Awards will be handed out and there’s also a post-plunge party.

Registration can also be completed online at www.firstgiving.com/organization/polarplunge.
