Anglers are gearing up for another exciting lake sturgeon season in Cheboygan County.

The 2019 season on Black Lake has been scheduled for Saturday, February 2.

The bag limit for the season is seven lake sturgeon.

Registration is required to participate.  The DNR Onaway field station will host early registration on Friday, February 1, from 2 to 7 p.m.

“Early registration is a great opportunity for anglers to pick up their fishing identification flags and talk with DNR staff about season logistics and sturgeon populations,” said DNR fisheries biologist Tim Cwalinski.

Cwalinski went on to say that anglers who are unable to take advantage of early registration can do so on the day the season opens, at the registration trailer on Zolner Road ending on Black Lake.  Morning registration begins at 7 a.m.

Anyone who successfully catches a lake sturgeon must contact an on-ice Department of Natural Resources employee and register the fish at the Zolner Road trailer registration site.
