The Salvation Army of Alpena County wants to thank the community for donating roughly $140,000 over the holiday seasons.

The money was used to provide a Christmas meal and gifts for over 600 county residents.

The remainder will be used for programing in 2019.

“We had overwhelming support from the community again this year,” said Captain Amy Cedervall.  “We were able to provide for each family that sought our help.  This Christmas season has been such a blessing.”

Cedervall said the Army is still short approximately $20,000 from its total Christmas goal of $160,000, which is attributed mostly to lower donations through a mail appeal.  She is hopeful more donations will come in to make up the difference.

The Army raised $84,000 toward its Red Kettle goal of $80,000.  The remainder of the $160,000 Christmas goal is made up of the mail appeal, specially placed counter kettles and walk-in donations.
