The Alpena City Council has approved a one-year extension for a gravel aggregate contract.

Specification Stone Products will continue to deliver different types of stone to the city on an as-needed basis.

Prices were up in 2018 but costs are even higher in 2019, ranging from about a 9.5 – 12.6 percent increase.

The various stone products are primarily used by the city as backfill following utility digs.

City engineer Rich Sullenger said the city typically spends under $20,000 annually on the products.
