The average price of gas in Michigan was up over the week, but prices at the pumps are heading back down again.

That’s according to AAA, which says the new statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is about $2.34, up 11 cents.

Of the ten metro areas it surveys, AAA found the cheapest price for gas in Traverse City where it’s $2.29.  The most expensive gas of $2.42 per gallon was found in Marquette.

Motorists in the Alpena area were paying an average of $2.27 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas Tuesday morning, up 18 cents from one week ago.
