A 48 year-old Illinois man will be sentenced in January for repeatedly stalking an Alpena woman earlier this year.

Matthew Connors pleaded no contest this week, to one count each of aggravated stalking and domestic violence.

It was disclosed in court that Connors met the woman online and the two starting dating.

Something changed in the relationship and Connors starting stalking the woman.  On August 21 he went to her home on Blair Street and an argument ensued.  Sometime during the incident Connors slapped the victim across the face.

Prosecutor Ed Black said the woman was “afraid” of Connors.

In exchange for the no consent plea a third count of home invasion – first degree was dismissed.  Connors entered a no contest plea to protect himself from possible future civil liability.

Connors is from Carbondale, Illinois.  Sentencing is scheduled for January 22.
