The City of Alpena has renewed a contract for the curbside pick up of bagged grass and leaves.

City engineer Rich Sullenger told the municipal council this week, the city has been “very pleased” with the job A-1 Tree Service has provided over the past three years.

Council responded by accepting Sullenger’s recommendation to renew a three-year deal with the company, but declined to add an additional three-year renewal option on to that, citing a desire to bid out the service after 2021.

A-1 Tree Service will be paid the same amount in 2019, $10,000 for each of four pick ups – two in the spring and two in the fall for a contract total of $40,000.  It will receive an additional $100 per pick up in 2020 and 2021.

When A-1 Tree Service submitted a low bid for the service in 2016, the only other company was asking for more than twice the amount over the three-year period.
